In 2007-2008, Tein Telecom already installed a first group of cameras on the axis Station – Antwerpsestraat – Grote Markt – Eikelstraat – Zimmerplein, connected via glass fiber to a central watch post at the Local Police of Lier, located on the Paradeplein.

This new project consists of the placement of new digital (IP) cameras on 4 new locations, which were judged to be, after an evaluation by the local police force, ideal locations to add to the existing video surveillance area. The digital images from these new cameras are also sent to the Local Police of Lier via the optical glass fiber network.

The upgrade from the existing video management system “Simba” to “SightVisionTM”, Tein Telecom’s latest VMS, is also a part of this project. SightVisionTM is equipped with the most advanced developments in matters of user interface ergonomics, advanced scripting, incident management and reporting, etc…

The main requirements for this camera system were the following: autonomous functioning, without the need for continuous operating , and advanced functionalities used in support of police actions. In order to meet the first requirement, the cameras will, amongst other measures, automatically execute pre-programmed tours, varying in date and time. In the case of active police actions, the automatic orientation of different cameras to a specific location by means of a pre-defined keyboard shortcut, or by a click on the city map, represents a significant added value.

The adapted architecture allows the camera network to grow along with the needs of the city and those of the local police force. The extension of the retention delay for the recorded images from seven to fourteen days is a first example of this.

The end of this project is foreseen for mid-November.
